Robin Pickens is a quilt designer and a designer of textile collections for Moda Fabrics. Robin started working with Moda after winning the global Fabric8 competition on spoonflower.com. Prior to her work in the fabric and quilting world, Robin was a successful designer and Art Director in the television industry with work ranging from designing news graphics to syndicated program animations and managing and directing an in-house staff for a division of Time Warner. Robin has also worked for over 10 years doing freelance work in animation, including work with E! Entertainment Network.
While exploring her desire to do more creative work, Robin started licensing her artwork to companies for greeting cards, calendars, craft books, dishware, holiday decor and more. She loved creating artwork that reflected beauty, color and joy in people’s homes. She still happily creates watercolor floral art for the Seller’s calendar “Seize the Day”, which she has been doing for the past 9 years.
Robin’s approach to quilt making came from a more improv perspective from some classes she took with her mother- the first quilter in the family! Realizing she wanted to share her perspective on quilt design, Robin started creating patterns that could be friendly for the beginner or share a twist that pushed the designs a little outside the box. She is happy to design in a range that spans a “transitional” perspective- from traditional to modern. And she loves to have some large spaces to show off the grand florals she likes to create so much!
Robin enjoys her work that allows her to be present with her family and continue and create new traditions to share with her two kids and husband. It is a joy to connect with the world of quilters and to make things with hand and heart!
